Routledge International Handbook of Outdoor Studies PDF
By:Barbara Humberstone,Heather Prince,Karla A. Henderson
Published on 2015-11-19 by Routledge

The ‘outdoors’ is a physical and ideological space in which people engage with their environment, but it is also an important vehicle for learning and for leisure. The Routledge Handbook of Outdoor Studies is the first book to attempt to define and survey the multi-disciplinary set of approaches that constitute the broad field of outdoor studies, including outdoor recreation, outdoor education, adventure education, environmental studies, physical culture studies and leisure studies. It reflects upon the often haphazard development of outdoor studies as a discipline, critically assesses current knowledge in outdoor studies, and identifies further opportunities for future research in this area. With a broader sweep than any other book yet published on the topic, this handbook traces the philosophical and conceptual contours of the discipline, as well as exploring key contemporary topics and debates, and identifying important issues in education and professional practice. It examines the cultural, social and political contexts in which people experience the outdoors, including perspectives on outdoor studies from a wide range of countries, providing the perfect foundation for any student, researcher, educator or outdoors practitioner looking to deepen their professional knowledge of the outdoors and our engagement with the world around us.

The Secret of Winning PDF
By:Rasmus Sanne
Published on by Rasmus Sanne

Pro sports and sports in the youth might seem as the same thing disregarding the physical difference. However, it couldn’t be further away from the truth. Pro sports are about entertainment, which comes from winning over the other team in terms of scoring the most goals. Youth sports are about personal development and preparing for life, not winning over the other team. However, with the right approach to coaching, learning how to manage failure, how to practice, set the right goals, giving the right feedback and instilling a winning culture, it is possible to have the best from both sides. It is possible to win championships and still focusing on the real reason of youth sports, I call it The Ultimate Team.

Book Labor Relations in Professional Sports PDF Free

Labor Relations in Professional Sports PDF
By:Robert C. Berry,William B. Gould,Paul D. Staudohar
Published on 1986 by Greenwood Publishing Group

For all the billions of dollars the sports industry generates, its labor laws and negotiations are still relatively new, and their impact is only beginning to be felt. Labor Relations in Professional Sports offers a step-by-step examination of how these new management-player relationships have come about and what they may portend for the future. In an engaging style that is rich in sports history and anecdotes, the authors examine the background of the major team sports--baseball, football, basketball, and hockey--and analyze how business and legal considerations have affected each sport's development. They also probe current unresolved issues and predictable future problems, such as the relationships of broadcast networks and sports leagues. Surprisingly, this book with so formidable a title is not only readable but even difficult to put down. Explanations of complex legal decisions are reduced to brief, lucid passages. Extensive footnotes are provided in each chapter for readers who wish greater detail. |Choice| . . . a comprehensive treatment of labor relations in sports. . . . Overall, the book is a slam-dunk success. |Journal of Law and Commerce|

Book In Darkest Alaska PDF Free

In Darkest Alaska PDF
By:Robert Campbell
Published on 2011-06-03 by University of Pennsylvania Press

Before Alaska became a mining bonanza, it was a scenic bonanza, a place larger in the American imagination than in its actual borders. Prior to the great Klondike Gold Rush of 1897, thousands of scenic adventurers journeyed along the Inside Passage, the nearly thousand-mile sea-lane that snakes up the Pacific coast from Puget Sound to Icy Strait. Both the famous—including wilderness advocate John Muir, landscape painter Albert Bierstadt, and photographers Eadweard Muybridge and Edward Curtis—and the long forgotten—a gay ex-sailor, a former society reporter, an African explorer, and a neurasthenic Methodist minister—returned with fascinating accounts of their Alaskan journeys, becoming advance men and women for an expanding United States. In Darkest Alaska explores the popular images conjured by these travelers' tales, as well as their influence on the broader society. Drawing on lively firsthand accounts, archival photographs, maps, and other ephemera of the day, historian Robert Campbell chronicles how Gilded Age sightseers were inspired by Alaska's bounty of evolutionary treasures, tribal artifacts, geological riches, and novel thrills to produce a wealth of highly imaginative reportage about the territory. By portraying the territory as a |Last West| ripe for American conquest, tourists helped pave the way for settlement and exploitation.
